Black Hawk Down “Irene” center speaker woofer excursion

A demo of my center speaker (Swans F2.3C) playing the "Irene" scene from Black Hawk Down. In this demo it is set to LARGE to "show off" woofer excursion. As you can see, there is a certain extent of distortion, but normally it is set to SMALL, with a cut-off at 80hz.

How To Choose The Best Sounding Speakers For Your Home Theater System

Home theater speakers are one of the most important parts of a home theater system as is it is the sound that recreates a theater experience. All home theater speakers have basic components like left and right speakers, center speaker, surround speakers, and sub woofers but all of these must mesh to get the best possible sound. This is why you should stick with the same maker for your speakers to insure that they all match up properly.

These days you can find a large variety of front speakers including floor standing, bookshelf, and satellite speakers. As far as the quality of sound is concerned, floor standing tower speakers will give you the best although they are space hogs. If you don't have a lot of room to work with you may want to go with satellite speakers and a subwoofer.

When shopping for their system components a lot of people don't consider the importance of the center channel speaker but this is a mistake as they do most of the work in the system by providing a great deal of the soundtrack as well as dialogue. This speaker is usually placed on your TV but for those who have wall mounted televisions there are variations made for those also.

The speakers that most people think about when shopping for their home theater speakers are the surround speakers which are give you the crisp distinct sounds like leaves rustling or rain and wind. It is this component that makes the whole movie at home set up more enjoyable and real. If you really want the full effect go with at least two pairs of surround speakers for the best results.

Subwoofers are the last of the components you will need for your system and are a definite must since many DTS and Dolby soundtracks have bass tracks that will only be heard with a subwoofer. These allow the low frequency effects that help recreate the movie experience you feel in a regular theater.

Another thing you may consider is putting the subwoofers that have recently come out that can be installed in your seating. These contain a small linear motor which sends a low frequency sound into the body of the person in the seat after receiving a signal from an amplifier.

These take advantage of our senses by allowing us to both hear and feel the low frequency sounds without having to have the monstrous speakers like those at a movie theater.

How do you like the Rotels weith the F2.2? I have 1091 Mono’s and a 1085 for the surrounds. I am considering upgrading from my polk RTi12′s/CSi5/RTi6′s to the swan setup. I’ve heard nothing but great things! Wish I could demo them in person first…

The Swans F2.3C is powered by a Rotel RB-1091. The main speakers (JBL TL260)are now replaced by Swans F2.2F, which are powered by a Rotel RB-1092. Both power amps receive their signals from a Primare SP32 surroundprocessor.

Damn, that is pretty crazy. Which A/V receiver or amplifier do you use to power your speakers?

  7. Gromt. En slik skal jeg avgjort vurdere å kjøpe.
